The Constitution of the Surrounding World External to the Island that is Manhattan

Cara Brostrom

INVESTIGATION: An investigation of a journey around the perimeter, into the confinements and curiousity that is Manhattan. This is a walking investigation into place, through the practice of displacement. A feat of amateur endurance, a journey of some 60,000 steps that take me back to where I started, I attempt to unify this experience as one walk in one day. ACTION: I will walk the 32 mile perimeter of Manhattan Island, beginning at 7 AM on Saturday, October 9th and ending at approximately 9 PM of the same day. TRANSMISSION: On Sunday I will share my walk at the festival HQ, setting up a display for documentation and exchange, generating memory maps, narratives and other material onsite to share with the public. Note: This proposal is in direct conversation with a performance in July in which I walked the perimeter of an uninhabited island in the Boston Harbor for several days, and I expect the two to inform each other greatly.
