 Tektonomology in the East Village

Tektonomastics is the study of building names. At www.tektonomastics.org we have begun locating and documenting named residential buildings. For Conflux we will carry out our first field workshop, to conduct an in-depth study around the festival neighborhood. On Oct 9th we'll train and lead an investigation to catalog all named buildings. As tektonomologists for the day, participants will be briefed on history and origins of named residential buildings, equipped with a spotter's card and map of streets, then turned loose. All buildings will be documented online as they are found. Overnight, we will research construction dates, and possible origins of names. On Oct 10th we'll return to the buildings and engage with residents through interviews and photographs. Locals and passers-by will be asked to comment on each building and its name. We will document the re-telling of each building's history on our website, creating a record of names, locations and inhabitants.
