It’s the people and personal memories from everyday life that make places special.
Wish You Were Here When…
Appearances in movies, magazine and television shows make places in New York famous. It’s the people and personal memories from everyday life that make places special. “Wish you were here when…” makes us aware of the personal stories which inhabit our public spaces.

New York City is a relatively small city, but its minimal size is exaggerated as millions of people share the same public space. Although we occupy spaces at different times, we take the same paths to work, rest on the same park benches, cover our heads under the same awnings as it rains, and grasp the same railing as our subway car approaches the same subway station.

Even though we share the same public space, these spaces that we inhabit take on different personal meanings. “Wish you were here when…” attempts to share these more personal meanings with the public that shares our space.

By taking a photo of a public place that has special significance to us, we memorialize the ordinary. By writing on the photo of that public place with our specific memory, we give that space heart, soul, and feeling. We hope to encourage people to share what makes a space extraodinary.
