Scentorium is a performance with a portable smell laboratory that investigates smell perception. Scentorium(olfactory factory) presents and charts smell experience with an online survey and interactive smell map. Scentorium (olfactory factory) is a performance that investigates smell perception and charts memories connected to smell. These smell experiences are based on local smells observed in public places and private smells connected to memory. http: //www.olfactoryfactory.org has been created to collect smell experiences, and includes a global interactive olfactory map.
As a performance the Scentorium is small portable, rolling lab/kiosk with olfactory samples. The participant is invited to sit, be blindfolded and to experience and respond to a sampling of various odors and questions that I (as a smell clinician) have created for the performance.
The Scentorium installation takes the form of a tiny naturalist museum, displaying scents/smell specimens from various locales. Viewers are invited to share their olfactory experiences of the city/place in which they are familair and contribute via written survey and or (if possible) to the on-line map . As an exhibit the size is variable and may include a projected image of the on-line map if internet access is available.
