Growgreenpoint (GGP) is a community greening project for Greenpoint, Brooklyn. GGP kiosk provides a playful opportunity for people to raise a consciousness in turning Greenpoint into a greener place as its name implies.

Growgreenpoint (GGP) is an ongoing urban greening project started in March 2007. GGP provides a playful opportunity for people to raise a consciousness to turn Greenpoint into a greener place. For Conflux, GGP will set up a kiosk in Greenpoint that provides various playful tools for people as a chance to interact with the GGP project. The GGP kiosk will supply the GGP tool kit, which includes a GGP button, a greening seed packet, and planting instructions. Also, GGP T-shirts, soil bags and gardening groves will be sold.
Participants will pin the GGP button to their clothes, symbolizing their support for this project. The button is also a word game, as the button is a green circle, and it is a “green point itself. Instructions direct the participants to plant the seed package in public and private areas throughout Greenpoint, such as abandoned or unmanaged land, sidewalk tree plots that are not taken care of, or even a crack of the street concrete, or their own backyards.
GGP T-shirts, soil bags, and gardening groves will assist the participants in their further commitment and support of GGP. In addition, the kiosk will have a map of the “green points that are indicated by the green dots where the audience planted the seed package during the course of the Conflux festival. More green points on the map means greener Greenpoint. GGP will also provide benches and cold GGP tea in front of the kiosk in order to further facilitate communication among the participants.
The GGP website will provide a community forum by its features including a blog, a GGP map (that the participants can update with their “greened location), and further information about GGP and urban greening practices.
Through interacting with GGP, the audience will gain knowledge about ecology in the urban environment. They will learn about the benefits of urban greening while creating a unique community of Growgreenpoint.
