Everything I do…¦ a three-day series of sign holdings in different areas of Brooklyn, NY.

The first sign project was the result of a breakup. After 29 consecutive days of San Francisco rain I heard Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You Been Gone” in a way I had never heard it before. I found myself dancing like a teenager in my bedroom feeling alive and free. The next thing I knew I was scribbling the lyrics “since you been gone I can breathe for the first time” on a huge piece of cardboard and flying out the door 2 blocks down the street to the busy free way off ramp. I stood there with that sign for over an hour, telling my city, my neighbors and myself that everything was finally okay.

The response I received that day was much more than I could have imagined. During that hour I connected with countless people, they laughed, they said they understood, they told me I was rad and they gave me fifteen dollars.

Everything I do…¦ is another sign project about self-care, humanness and the desire for connection to community. This series can be preformed anywhere. I can go any place and let people know somebody else in the world cares enough to stand outside and say it. The best parts about being out with a sign are the brief conversations with strangers or exchanging a smile or a thank you. Many times in my life I have needed a gentle reminder that I am not alone and that everything really is ok. Instead of waiting for that comfort and reassurance I am giving it to the world, a community, a passerby and to myself.
